A Brief History

ACON was created in 2000 by Salim Shaban. After working for two different NGO's before Salim decided to start his own organisation to enable him to work more freely on his own ideas. He decided to base his organisation in the rural areas of the Bungoma district. This way Salim wanted to be close to the community. Unlike many Non-profit organizations who are based in Nairobi, Salim wanted to be in direct contact with the people to understand their needs and problems.
Since we started ACON has grown steadily reaching more and more people. The organization currently counts 12 members of staff to implement the projects and it is run by a board consisting of 7 members.
